Psalm 82, verse by verse

Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.

1

God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods.

God is present among the powerful; He passes judgment among the divine.

2

How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.

When will you stop favoring the wicked and judging unfairly? Pause and reflect.

3

Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.

Stand up for those who are poor and alone; be fair and kind to those who are suffering and in need.

4

Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.

Help those in need and the less fortunate; save them from the grasp of evil.

5

They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.

They are unaware and refuse to comprehend; they continue their journey in ignorance. The world's fundamental principles are in disarray.

6

I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.

I've declared, you are divine beings; each one of you is a cherished child of the Supreme.

7

But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.

But you will perish as mere mortals, and tumble down like any nobleman.

8

Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.

Rise up, O Divine, judge the world: for all the nations are yours to inherit.
