Psalm 65, verse by verse

Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.

1

Praise waiteth for thee, O God, in Sion: and unto thee shall the vow be performed.

In Zion, God, your praises are ready and waiting. The vows we made to you will be kept.

2

O thou that hearest prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come.

You, who listens to our prayers, everyone will seek your presence.

3

Iniquities prevail against me: as for our transgressions, thou shalt purge them away.

My wrongdoings overwhelm me, but you, you will cleanse us from our mistakes.

4

Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple.

Fortunate is the person you choose and invite to be close to you, to live in your divine presence. We will find joy and fulfillment in the love and grace of your sacred home.

5

By terrible things in righteousness wilt thou answer us, O God of our salvation; who art the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of them that are afar off upon the sea:

With awe-inspiring deeds of righteousness you answer us, O God, our savior. You are the unwavering hope for everyone, near and far, on land and sea.

6

Which by his strength setteth fast the mountains; being girded with power:

With His mighty strength, He firmly establishes the mountains, wrapped in sheer power.

7

Which stilleth the noise of the seas, the noise of their waves, and the tumult of the people.

He quiets the roaring seas, hushes the waves, and calms the chaos of the crowds.

8

They also that dwell in the uttermost parts are afraid at thy tokens: thou makest the outgoings of the morning and evening to rejoice.

Even those living in the farthest corners of the earth tremble at your signs. You fill the dawn and dusk with joy.

9

Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it: thou greatly enrichest it with the river of God, which is full of water: thou preparest them corn, when thou hast so provided for it.

You lovingly care for the earth, nourishing it with God's abundant river. You bless it with crops, providing for all its needs.

10

Thou waterest the ridges thereof abundantly: thou settlest the furrows thereof: thou makest it soft with showers: thou blessest the springing thereof.

You generously hydrate the land, smoothing its rough edges. You soften it with rain, blessing its growth.

11

Thou crownest the year with thy goodness; and thy paths drop fatness.

You bless each year with your abundant goodness; your journey is filled with prosperity and richness.

12

They drop upon the pastures of the wilderness: and the little hills rejoice on every side.

Raindrops fall gently on the wild meadows, and every small hill around bursts with joy.

13

The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered over with corn; they shout for joy, they also sing.

Fields are adorned with herds, valleys blanketed with grains; they echo with joyous cheers and songs.
