Psalm 108, verse by verse

Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.

1

O god, my heart is fixed; I will sing and give praise, even with my glory.

God, my heart is steady and true; I'll sing and express my gratitude, with all my soul's brilliance.

2

Awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early.

Arise, my lyre and harp: I will awaken at dawn with joy in my heart.

3

I will praise thee, O LORD, among the people: and I will sing praises unto thee among the nations.

With joy in my heart, I'll honor you, LORD, before all people. I'll sing your praises loud and clear for all nations to hear.

4

For thy mercy is great above the heavens: and thy truth reacheth unto the clouds.

Your love is more vast than the sky, and your honesty extends as high as the clouds.

5

Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: and thy glory above all the earth;

May you rise high, O God, beyond the skies, and let your magnificent splendor outshine the entire earth.

6

That thy beloved may be delivered: save with thy right hand, and answer me.

Please, for the sake of those you love, rescue them. Use your power and respond to my plea.

7

God hath spoken in his holiness; I will rejoice, I will divide Shechem, and mete out the valley of Succoth.

God has shared His sacred words; I will celebrate, I will distribute Shechem, and measure the valley of Succoth.

8

Gilead is mine; Manasseh is mine; Ephraim also is the strength of mine head; Judah is my lawgiver;

Gilead and Manasseh belong to me; Ephraim gives me strength; Judah guides me with its laws.

9

Moab is my washpot; over Edom will I cast out my shoe; over Philistia will I triumph.

Moab is my basin for cleansing; I'll dismiss Edom as easily as tossing a shoe; I'll celebrate victory over Philistia.

10

Who will bring me into the strong city? who will lead me into Edom?

Who will guide me into the fortress of strength? Who will show me the way to Edom?

11

Wilt not thou, O God, who hast cast us off? and wilt not thou, O God, go forth with our hosts?

Won't you, our God, even though you have rejected us? Won't you, our God, march out again with our armies?

12

Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.

Lend us your hand in times of strife, for human aid is often futile.

13

Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies.

With God on our side, we'll bravely succeed; He will crush our foes.
