Psalm 36, verse by verse

Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.

1

The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes.

The wrongdoings of the wicked make my heart ache, revealing their lack of reverence for God.

2

For he flattereth himself in his own eyes, until his iniquity be found to be hateful.

He basks in self-praise, blind to his own faults, until his wrongdoings become repulsive.

3

The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit: he hath left off to be wise, and to do good.

His speech is filled with lies and deceit; he has abandoned wisdom and goodness.

4

He deviseth mischief upon his bed; he setteth himself in a way that is not good; he abhorreth not evil.

He plots harm while lying in bed; he chooses a path of wrongdoing; he shows no distaste for wickedness.

5

Thy mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds.

Your love, Lord, is as vast as the sky; your loyalty extends up to the clouds.

6

Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy judgments are a great deep: O LORD, thou preservest man and beast.

Your goodness is as majestic as towering mountains; your wisdom as profound as the deepest seas. Oh Lord, you protect both humans and animals.

7

How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.

God, your love is truly amazing! That's why we, as humans, find comfort and trust in your protective care.

8

They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.

They will be deeply fulfilled by the richness of your home, and you will quench their thirst with the joy flowing from your love.

9

For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.

In your presence, we find the source of life; through your guidance, we discover clarity.

10

O continue thy lovingkindness unto them that know thee; and thy righteousness to the upright in heart.

Please keep showering your love on those who know you, and maintain your fairness with those who are pure at heart.

11

Let not the foot of pride come against me, and let not the hand of the wicked remove me.

Don't let arrogance trample me, nor the wicked push me aside.

12

There are the workers of iniquity fallen: they are cast down, and shall not be able to rise.

Those who do evil have stumbled and fallen; they're down and can't get back up.
