Psalm 122, verse by verse

Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.

1

I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.

My heart leapt with joy when they invited me to enter the Lord's sanctuary.

2

Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem.

We will stand firm within your walls, beloved Jerusalem.

3

Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together:

Jerusalem stands, a tightly knit city, unified and strong.

4

Whither the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, unto the testimony of Israel, to give thanks unto the name of the LORD.

That is where the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord, as Israel was commanded, to give thanks to the Lord.

5

For there are set thrones of judgment, the thrones of the house of David.

David's house has established seats of justice, where decisions are made.

6

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.

Send your heartfelt prayers for Jerusalem's tranquility: those who cherish you will surely thrive.

7

Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces.

May peace fill your walls, Jerusalem, and abundance grace your palaces.

8

For my brethren and companions’ sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee.

For the love of my brothers and friends, I say to you, Jerusalem: may peace be within you.

9

Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek thy good.

For the love of God's home, I will pursue your wellbeing.
