Psalm 33, verse by verse

Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.

1

Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright.

Celebrate with joy, you good-hearted people, for it's beautiful to give thanks to the Lord.

2

Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings.

Celebrate God's glory with the melody of the harp; express your love for Him through the symphony of the ten-stringed instrument.

3

Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise.

Pour your heart out in a fresh melody to him; play with passion and let your music roar.

4

For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.

God's words are always true and just; everything He does is honest and pure.

5

He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD.

He adores fairness and justice; the world overflows with the Lord's kindness.

6

By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.

With God's command, the skies were born; every star crafted by His divine whisper.

7

He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses.

He lovingly collects the sea's waters into a pile, storing the ocean's depths like treasures in a warehouse.

8

Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.

May everyone on Earth respect the LORD; may every person globally marvel at his majesty.

9

For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.

When He spoke, it happened instantly; His command alone made it stand firm and unchanging.

10

The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect.

God nullifies the plans of the ungodly; He renders the schemes of people ineffective.

11

The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.

God's plans stand firm forever; the purposes of His heart last through every generation.

12

Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.

Fortunate is the country that recognizes the LORD as their God, and the people He has personally selected as His cherished family.

13

The LORD looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men.

From His heavenly throne, God lovingly watches over every single person.

14

From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth.

From His dwelling, He lovingly watches over every single person on earth.

15

He fashioneth their hearts alike; he considereth all their works.

He lovingly shapes the heart of every one of them, and deeply understands all that we do.

16

There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength.

No king can be saved by a vast army; no warrior escapes by sheer strength.

17

An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength.

Relying on a horse for protection is futile; its power cannot truly save anyone.

18

Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy;

Look, God's gaze rests lovingly on those who respect Him, on those who trust in His kindness.

19

To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.

To save their spirit from the grasp of death, and sustain them amidst scarcity.

20

Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield.

Our hearts yearn for God; He is our comfort and protection.

21

For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name.

Our hearts will overflow with joy, for we have placed our faith in His sacred name.

22

Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee.

May your compassion, Lord, envelop us, as we place our trust in you.
