Psalm 147, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.
Celebrate the Lord, for it feels wonderful to express our love through song to our God. It's a beautiful and joyful experience.
The LORD doth build up Jerusalem: he gathereth together the outcasts of Israel.
The Lord lovingly rebuilds Jerusalem, warmly uniting Israel's scattered ones.
He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.
He lovingly mends the shattered hearts and tenderly heals their deepest wounds.
He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names.
He knows each star intimately, counting them one by one, and even gives them their own unique names.
Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.
Our Lord is truly magnificent, possessing immense strength. His wisdom and understanding are boundless.
The LORD lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground.
God elevates the humble, but He brings down those who choose evil.
Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God:
Express your gratitude to the Lord through song; play the harp in honor of our God.
Who covereth the heaven with clouds, who prepareth rain for the earth, who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains.
He who blankets the sky with clouds, readies the rain for the earth, and nurtures the mountain grass.
He giveth to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry.
He lovingly provides nourishment for the animals, and hears the hungry cries of the baby ravens.
He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man.
He finds no joy in a horse's might, nor does he favor a man's physical prowess.
The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.
God finds joy in those who respect Him and trust in His kindness.
Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem; praise thy God, O Zion.
Celebrate the Lord, Jerusalem; express your love and gratitude to your God, Zion.
For he hath strengthened the bars of thy gates; he hath blessed thy children within thee.
He has fortified your defenses, blessing your children within your walls.
He maketh peace in thy borders, and filleth thee with the finest of the wheat.
He brings tranquility to your boundaries and blesses you with the best of the harvest.
He sendeth forth his commandment upon earth: his word runneth very swiftly.
He passionately commands the world; His word travels faster than light.
He giveth snow like wool: he scattereth the hoarfrost like ashes.
He blankets the earth with snow, soft as wool, and sprinkles frost as if it were mere ashes.
He casteth forth his ice like morsels: who can stand before his cold?
He scatters his ice like crumbs: who can endure his chilling presence?
He sendeth out his word, and melteth them: he causeth his wind to blow, and the waters flow.
He sends out His word, and the snow and ice melt; He stirs up His winds, and the waters flow.
He sheweth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel.
He lovingly reveals His teachings to Jacob, and His laws and decisions to Israel.
He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the LORD.
No other nation has experienced God's unique dealings like us; they remain unaware of His divine judgments. Let's express our gratitude to the Lord.
